Terrance G. Sheppard, Chair of BOYNECLARKE’s Family Law team has been asked to sit on the Parent Information Program Development Working Committee. The aim of this Committee is to expand the current Parent Information Program to include new and updated materials, available both in English and French.
The Parenting Information Program is a voluntary program designed to assist parents with family law matters when children are the subject of a court case. The Parenting Information Program provides information regarding the legal process, focusing on supporting children throughout the divorce process and increasing awareness of the impact divorce has on children.
The changes to the Canada Child Tax Benefit in a shared parenting situation announced by the Federal government in it's budget in March of 2010 take effect as of July 1, 2011. Previously, parents who have shared parenting of their children would each received the full CCTB for 6 months each. After July 1, they will each received half of their entitlement to the CCTB, Universal Child Care Benefit and the child component of the GST/HST, but for the full year.

Questions and Answers
How is child support calculated?
The first step in determining the appropriate amount of child support is to determine the payor parent’s total annual income, before taxes. Annual income is the money a person earns from employment and self-employment and income from investments. This includes all sources of income in the payor parent’s tax return (for example: salary, wages, commissions, Employment Insurance, Social Assistance).
